NHS Acid Attack Guidance

Burns caused by acid, alkaline or caustic chemicals can be very damaging and need immediate medical attention.

Call 999 and ask for urgent help.

Immediate first aid

After calling 999, to help prevent severe injuries from a chemical burn:

  • try to carefully remove the chemical and any contaminated clothing
  • rinse the affected area using as much clean water as possible

Remove the chemical and affected clothing

Try to remove the chemical and contaminated clothing from contact with the skin and eyes, but be very careful not to touch or spread the chemical as this could lead to further injuries to the victim or the person helping them.

Use gloves or other protective materials to cover hands and, if possible, carefully cut away clothing such as T-shirts, rather than pulling them off over the head.

Do not wipe the skin as this may spread contamination.

If the chemical is dry, brush it off the skin.

Rinse continuously with clean water

Rinse the affected area continuously with clean water as soon as possible to remove any residual chemical.

Try to make sure the water can run off of the affected area without pooling on the skin and potentially spreading the chemical to a wider area.

Only use water – do not rub or wipe the area.

Stay on the phone until the ambulance arrives and follow any other advice given by the 999 call handler to avoid further injury.

Stockpile food and water, German government tells citizens

Germany’s government has warned its citizens to stockpile food and water in preparation of potential national disruption.

Now published, the “Concept for Civil Defence” advises German citizens to have enough food for 10 days and enough water for five days.

The report emerges following five terror attacks which have taken place in Germany over the past 12 months, including a suicide bombing at a wine bar in Ansbach which injured 12 people last month.

Reliable alarm systems and improved structural protection of buildings is also being urged.

This news comes shortly after a London business group made new preparation suggestions for smaller companies in the English capital in the event of a major terror attack.

Smaller London businesses urged to prepare for potential terror attacks

19200603659_58ae3fbc72_kSmaller companies in London have been urged to make preparations for potential terror attacks which could lead to disruption for several days.

London First believes that, while larger firms are likely to already have planned for terror incidents, small and medium-sized business should take more measures as a precaution.

This includes arrangements for staff to work from home in the event of the capital being under lengthy restrictions, as well as having enough food and drink within the workplace.

It’s also advised to organise a system to ensure of staff well-being, have security staff available on short notice, and even have backup work sites in place.

London First security and resilience director Robert Hall has been keen to stress that businesses working together as a community will provide themselves with a clear advantage in the event of a London attack.

As the United Kingdom’s first truly whole of life safety company, Train2Protect is keen to assist businesses to prepare for any incident, no matter how big or small. Be sure to browse our courses on the left hand side, or contact us for more information.

Run, Hide, Tell – A Reminder

Following the announcement of an increase in patrolling armed police across England and Wales following an attack in London’s Russell Square, Train2Protect is keen to remind customers of Run, Hide, Tell – an important campaign from the National Police Chiefs’ Council.

The UK threat level remains at ‘Severe’, meaning that an attack is likely, and Run, Hide, Tell offers a three-step process for those who find themselves in the rare event of a firearms or weapons attack:

RUN to a place of safety. This is a far better option than to surrender or negotiate. If there’s nowhere to go, then…

HIDE. It’s better to hide than to confront. Remember to turn your phone to silent and turn off vibrate. Barricade yourself in if you can. Then finally and only when it is safe to do so…

TELL the police by calling 999.

Train2Protect work to help to avoid these situations. From general Security to Search, Bomb Awareness to Post Room safety, our team can provide training courses in order to create a safer world.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
