Since 1st October 2021 anyone applying to renew their Security Officer licence with the SIA, is required to complete a 1 day top up training course to refresh their skills and learn new ones.

What’s included in the SIA Top Up for Security Officers:

  • Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry
  • Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry

As part of the above, all SIA Security Officers are now required to have completed the ACT terror threat awareness training PRIOR to attending Top up training. 

You must also hold a First Aid certificate valid for a minimum of 12 months on the day of training.

All courses are run at our Rochester training centre unless otherwise stated

Cost: £120 inc VAT

Entry Requirements:

The minimum age for an SIA licence is 18 years.

Learners must be able to communicate in English (oral and written) and should have minimum English language skills equivalent to:

  • A B1 level qualification on the Home Office’s list of recognised English tests and qualifications
  • An ESOL qualification at (Level 1) on the Ofqual register taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland
  • An ESOL qualification at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 5 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and taken in Scotland
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in English
  • SQA Core Skills in Communication at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Level 5
  • Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 1

If a learner cannot produce one of the above, then they will be asked to sit an English assessment at the beginning of the course.

On arrival and prior to any training taking place, learners will need to show proof that they have also completed the following on-line training:

  1. Terror Threat Awareness – Valid ACT Awareness Certificates (Orange and Blue). This is a free online course which can be accessed here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/act-awareness-elearning
  2. A certificate of first aid – minimum of Emergency First Aid at Work

These courses MUST be completed prior to attending the 1 day top up training, if you have not completed this prior to attending the course, you will be turned away.
